New Sandi Album and Free Download

2008 is set to be the year of Sandi Thom - it gives us great pleasure to announce that Sandi's long-awaited second album 'Pink & The Lily' will be released early next year.

Here's Sandi:

"Well peeps i'm very excited to announce that the long awaited album no.2 is due for release in the new year. The album, entitled 'Pink and the Lily' is a collection of songs gathered from the experiences over the last few years. A little longer than the first it plays host to a variety of different tunes both in tempo and feel and in subject matter.

"Some are up beat rock'n'roll touchin on 21st century livin, some are nostalgic tales of bygone days (which we all know I'm a little partial to!). Some of the songs tell stories, some are political and some are just simply straight from the heart.

"Over the year there have been many songs written, however unfortunately there comes a time when we have to close the lid on the album. So some songs don't make it on. But instead of stickin them back on the shelves to gather dust I decided to give them away for free! This month marks the first free track to be given away prior to the album release. More will follow in the coming months!

"This track is called 'The Ghost of Stevie Ray'. As the story goes, the boys and I were out in North America coming to the end of our first U.S tour. The last venue we played was the 'El mecambo' in Toronto. Legend has it that when the venue empties and all the punters have gone home, if you listen carefully, you can hear the ghost of Stevie Ray Vaughn playin the blues.

"The night we played, many of the bar staff told me their own tales of how they'd actually been witness to hearing the late guitar legend playing the blues. As you can imagine I was sceptical however on that night in August 2006 I do believe that I met the ghost of Stevie Ray. This song is a true account of the night I met what I believed to be the ghost of Stevie ray Vaughn.

"Apparently, they say he likes the lights turned off as you leave at night as he only plays in darkness! Enjoy. X "

Click here to head over to the VIP Section for your free download 'Dancin' With The Ghost Of Stevie Ray'.

And that's not all - we know that you're all very creative so we're offering one lucky fan the chance to have their design for 'Dancin' With The Ghost Of Stevie Ray' declared the official sleeve and made available on the website.

Listen to the track, read Sandi's comments above and get photographing or photoshopping to come up with your sleeve. You can e-mail your masterpiece to Interact@sonybmg.com with Subject: Sandi Sleeve Competition.

With the new album finished Sandi is taking a well-earned break at a health spa in Crete, going to bed early, living well and preparing for the next few hectic weeks. She's just finished a photoshoot and next up is the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan - which Sandi and the band are really looking forward to. In other news, Sandi is thinking about getting a new car, probably another Ford Focus. However she can't bear to part with the one she has so may just keep it at her mum's and rest it...

Sandi's Rock 'n' Roll Backstage Antics

Sandi and the band have been gettin' up to some naughty stuff out on the road. The singer seems to have lately been lettin' her hair down and breakin' out the rock n roll antics!

After a fantastic set at Glastonbury Sandi and the band were caught naughtily nicking a load of coffee mugs to drink the whisky, gin and beer filled rider from Charnock Richard Services. After the festival Sandi and the band arrived at the Glasgow Hilton next morning having not been to bed! Apparently, they had a bit of a boozy breakfast in the posh hotel!

After playing Glasto Sandi and the band headlined the Tullin's Festival in France and having played another rockin set Sandi and the band were caught displaying more rock n roll antics. Sandi was spotted ridin' around on the back of a Harley and later on that night was spotted riding around in Golf Buggies, tearing up the Golf course at their hotel in the Alps. The singer topped the night off with a little late night swimming in the hotel pool!

All this partying comes at a great time as Sandi is currently celebrating the end of her second album due for a September release and also the recent news that 'Punk Rocker' has reached a whopping 400,000 sales in the UK alone while her debut album has just clocked up one million sales worldwide! Rock on Sandi.

Sandi on 'When Horsepower Meant What It Said'

We caught up with Sandi to get all the behind-the-scenes insight from the 'When Horsepower Meant What It Said' video, live now in the video section...

"We filmed it in Regent Street about a month or so ago now and it was pretty hilarious - just kind of DIY, two people with handheld cameras and me standing in the middle of Regents Street playing the guitar. I got a lot of funny looks.

"There were people actually knocking into me and stuff. Really rude. I guess people in London are so used to seeing film crews running around that they're just oblivious to it now. A load of French people came up and recognised me and I think there was some kind of massive parade going on right through the middle of town, like a Hare Krishna thing, lots of crazy monks running around. Very hot that day as well. Good fun.

"It wasn't like a conventional video making style, there was no-one holding a massive sun torch glaring out in the street or anything, it was literally just a guy with a laptop who I was desperately trying to hear over the traffic.

"We just made it off our own back, we didn't make it with the label or anything, because the song's about cars and traffic jams we thought it would be quite apt to do it in the middle of the street with loads of traffic - the idea was that I was standing still and everything else was moving, which is pretty much what the song's about."

With the latest batch of recording sessions done and dusted and Sandi back on the road in Europe, we thought we'd bring you back the latest news on the eagerly awaited follow-up to 'Smile... It Confuses People'.

Q: Do you have a title for the next record yet?
A: "I want to call the album Pink & The Lily."

Q: How many complete songs are there right now?
A: "Right now there're eleven tracks finished, they're all definates for the album."

Q: What’s the track you're most proud of so far and do you think it will match the success of ‘Punk Rocker…’?
A: "I'm equally proud of all of them, and I sincerely hope one of them will be as successful as Punk Rocker!"

Q: How do you feel you’ve grown as an artist between the two records?
A: "I think the new album has a lot more confidence that the debut's success gave me, I feel I have gained a lot of confidence as an artist simply because of all the fans I have, They're the ones that have given me purpose in my music."

Q: Do you think the new album will surprise people?
A: "I think people are surprised when they hear the first album if the only track they ever heard was '...Punk Rocker', so I am sure the second will be the same."

Q: Have you drawn upon your experiences of the past couple of years for the new songs?
A: "Oh yes certainly, in the last year especially I've had to take the rough with the smooth and the songs definitely reflect this."

Q: You’ve had an amazing couple of years – do you have any ambitions left to fulfill?
A: "Many! Loads! I would love to see the next album do as well as the first, my ultimate goal is to play Hampden Park, Wembley & Madison Square gardens... Sold Out!"

Sandi had a great time last night at the Greatest Britons Award Ceremony 2007. Sir Paul McCartney was one of the nominees in the Greatest Living Briton category and - as he couldn't make it - he asked Sandi to represent him and pick up his award should he emerge victorious.

Unfortunately, Sir Paul was beaten to the title by Her Majesty The Queen, but Sandi enjoyed the evening all the same and got to meet a whole host of big stars including Dame Helen Mirren and David Beckham.
