Aint it funny the way that smell, sight, touch, any number of sensations can remind you of a moment in your life?
I remember many many years ago my neighbour paid me 40 bux to paint his garage white, but he failed to tell me that he was also going to throw in a couple of REM tickets!!!! WOW!!! It was a great surprise to receive two tickets to REM for the mere act of painting a garage.
Now every time I smell or see white paint I always think of Ian’s garage and that wonderful night at the REM concert.
That is where the song Sunset Borderline came from.
“A simple scent of summer stole my heart….”
“The smell of two stroke petrol….”
It’s all about those wonderful little things in life that take you back, that cause you to spend those long nostalgic nights in with friends pouring of old photos reminiscing about your past.
The Sunset Borderline reminds me of an old love, a long time ago, which was an immature relationship (as I was too young to know what love really was), but one that meant a lot to me at the time nonetheless. We would always drive out to meet the sunset as it arose from the Liverpool skyline, just as the sun rises and falls everything inevitably has an end but the one thing that lives on forever are the memories. That is something no one or no thing can ever take from us.
